Why You Should Invest in a Mentor

I get it, and you are feeling stuck. You have big dreams for your creative business but feel insecure and unaligned. You have a list of great ideas but don’t know how to execute them or which ideas you should focus on more than the others. Maybe you don’t know how to scale your business or get the exposure you need to make sales or how to position yourself as an expert.

As a creative entrepreneur, this resonated with me a few months ago. I have purchased and taken multiple masterclasses to expand my small design business. They have helped, don’t get me wrong, but I felt like I needed guidance on how to position myself as an expert, scale my business and offer more than just my essential services. Imposter syndrome hit me at an all-time high, and I had to do something about it. So that’s when I decided to hire a mentor.

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed one day. I stumbled upon a post from my masterclass instructor and fellow brand designer Marisa from Quill & Co., promoting opening the doors to her mentorship program. I immediately signed up because I read how she can help other brand designers achieve their own business goals and get where they want to be. Since I was already one of her students from her masterclass, I have already considered her a friend and someone I can rely on.

Let me tell you guys, after ending our first Zoom call; we already had ideas lined up for my business. She helped me:

  • Create a freebie for my target niche

  • Offer one more service for a different price point

  • Start an email list

  • Raise my rates

  • Create another offer within my branding packages for my clients

  • Offer a passive income service for my target niche

During our time, I was able to talk to her via Voxer on her designated days when we didn’t have our bi-weekly Zoom calls, work at my own pace, and I always felt so motivated and inspired after talking to her. Marisa was so encouraging and pushed me to do things I wasn’t comfortable doing. For example, one day, she asked me how much I was charging for my services. I answered, and she said, “Arlina, that’s so low! You should double your rates right now!” You should’ve seen my face, haha! I was shocked and nervous. But guess what? I am now offering my services a lot higher than I was, and my target market won’t even question why my rates are so high!

I am so grateful for Marisa, and I am glad I invested in her mentorship program! I wouldn’t be here without her expertise, and I am more confident than I was a few months ago! If you are reading this, this is your sign to invest in a mentor. Find an expert with whom you can connect and make sure it’s someone in your field. You won’t regret it, and your future self is going to love you for it! I hope this post helped you see how a mentor can impact you and your business for the better and the long run.
